Set Up Prolific Discord Alerts.

Create a private Discord webhook, connect it to StudyChime, test Prolific study alerts, and fix common channel notification problems.

StudyChime can send matching Prolific study alerts to a Discord channel using a Discord webhook.

A Discord webhook is a special URL for one Discord channel. When StudyChime sends an alert to that URL, the message appears in the channel you chose.

Before you start

You will need:

  • StudyChime installed
  • access to a Discord server
  • permission to manage webhooks in that server
  • a Discord text channel where you want alerts to appear

If you do not own the server, you may need to ask a server admin to create the webhook for you.

Create a Discord webhook

  1. Open Discord.
  2. Open the server where you want StudyChime alerts to appear.
  3. Open Server Settings.
  4. Go to Integrations.
  5. Open the Webhooks section.
  6. Click New Webhook.
  7. Give the webhook a clear name, such as StudyChime.
  8. Choose the channel where StudyChime alerts should be posted.
  9. Click Copy Webhook URL.

Keep the webhook URL private. Anyone with this URL can post messages to that Discord channel.

Add the webhook to StudyChime

  1. Open StudyChime from the Chrome toolbar.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Open Alerts.
  4. Find Discord.
  5. Paste the Discord webhook URL into the Webhook URL field.
  6. Enable Discord alerts.
  7. Select Save alert settings.

You can also configure Discord during Quick start if you select it at the alert chooser. Chrome requests Discord permission only when you configure or test this destination.

Send a test alert

After saving the webhook:

  1. Click Send Discord test in Settings → Alerts.
  2. Open the Discord channel you selected.
  3. Confirm that a StudyChime test message appears.

If the test message appears, Discord alerts are configured correctly.

What Discord alerts can include

Discord alert messages can include study details visible on your Prolific studies page, such as:

  • study title
  • reward
  • hourly rate
  • estimated completion time
  • places
  • study link when available

StudyChime only sends Discord alerts when Discord alerts are enabled and a study matches your alert settings.

Keep alert destinations private

Only send StudyChime alerts to private destinations you control.

StudyChime alerts may include study details visible on your own Prolific studies page, such as title, reward, hourly rate, estimated time, places, and links. Do not forward alerts to public communities, shared study feeds, public Discord channels, public Telegram groups, or third-party websites.

StudyChime is designed for private personal alerts, not public sharing or pooling of Prolific study data.

Free and Premium limits

The free version of StudyChime includes 15 external alerts per rolling 24-hour period. Each alert stops counting towards the quota exactly 24 hours after it was sent.

Discord, Telegram, and Pushover alerts all count towards this external alert quota.

Your Discord webhook URL remains in Chrome extension storage on your device and is sent only to Discord when StudyChime delivers an alert. Chrome requests Discord access when you enable this destination and can remove that optional permission when you disable it.

Premium removes the rolling 24-hour external alert limit.

If Discord alerts are not working

Check the following:

  • the Discord webhook URL was copied correctly
  • Discord alerts are enabled in StudyChime
  • StudyChime settings were saved
  • the webhook still exists in Discord
  • the webhook is assigned to the correct Discord channel
  • StudyChime can send a test alert
  • you have not reached the 15-alert limit for the current rolling 24-hour period

If needed, create a new Discord webhook and replace the old URL in StudyChime settings.

Changing the Discord channel

To send alerts to a different Discord channel, either:

  • edit the webhook in Discord and change its channel, or
  • create a new webhook for the new channel and paste the new webhook URL into StudyChime

After changing the webhook, send another test alert.

Removing Discord alerts

To stop Discord alerts:

  1. Open StudyChime settings.
  2. Open Alerts.
  3. Disable Discord alerts or remove the webhook URL.
  4. Select Save alert settings.

You can also delete the webhook from Discord if you no longer want it to be usable.

Security note

Treat your Discord webhook URL like a password.

Do not post it publicly, include it in screenshots, or share it with people who should not be able to send messages to your Discord channel.

If a webhook URL is exposed, delete the webhook in Discord and create a new one.
