Open Settings → Your data to manage local backup files. These are user-controlled files stored where you choose; they are not cloud synchronisation.
Settings JSON backup
Select Export JSON to download profiles and non-sensitive preferences. The backup can include browser-notification and sound preferences, the built-in sound selection and volume, accent colour, the active profile, every profile’s filters and schedule, and Milestone totals and unlocks.
The export does not include:
- Discord webhook URLs
- Telegram bot tokens or chat IDs
- Pushover app tokens or user keys
- licence or entitlement data
- installation identifiers
- browser-notification mappings
- custom sound files
Import a settings backup
- Open Settings → Your data.
- Select Import JSON.
- Choose a StudyChime backup file.
- Review the confirmation showing how many profiles will be imported.
- Confirm the import.
Before importing: the backup replaces your current profile set and the non-sensitive preferences included in the file; it does not merge profiles. Existing destination credentials, licence details, and other excluded values stay unchanged.
Trends CSV
Select Export CSV to download the anonymised observations used by Study Trends. Select Import CSV to add observations from a StudyChime Trends CSV to the data already stored in this browser.
For CSV imports, StudyChime compares the anonymised row values with existing observations. Reimporting the same export does not create another copy of those rows. Duplicate rows can therefore make the number added lower than the number in the file. If a row or the CSV structure is invalid, StudyChime rejects the import and shows an error rather than silently accepting damaged data.
The CSV contains timestamps, numerical values, currency codes, and matched/notified flags. It does not contain study titles, researcher names, descriptions, URLs, credentials, or a browsing timeline.
Imported observations remain local, are included in Trends calculations, and follow the same retention period of up to one year.
Trends CSV imports do not add to Milestone totals. Milestone progress is preserved through the non-sensitive JSON backup instead.
Milestones in backups
Milestone totals and permanent unlocks are local values. They do not include study titles, researcher names, descriptions, URLs, credentials, or exact activity timestamps.
Clearing Trends does not clear Milestones. Removing StudyChime or clearing its local extension data removes locally held Milestone information unless you exported a JSON backup first.
